Holistic analysis of the determinants of antibiotic prescription in primary care in France: a cross-sectional study with nationwide panel data

  14 April 2025

The study examines the determinants of antibiotic prescription in primary care in France using nationwide panel data from 2022. Results show that patients under 15, females, those with chronic diseases, white-collar workers, and European Deprivation Index score have higher antibiotic prescription rates. Older physicians and those in areas with higher healthcare accessibility also have higher prescription volumes. Female physicians are linked to lower prescription rates. The study highlights the complexity of antibiotic prescription behaviors and the need for strategies to account for these factors.
